Gunmen Storm Zangon Kataf Police Station — Two Officers Killed in Daring Midnight Attack

 A fresh wave of insecurity hit Kaduna State on Friday night as gunmen launched a deadly attack on a police station in Zonkwa, Zangon Kataf Local Government Area, killing at least two officers and leaving several others injured.

Eyewitnesses said the assailants arrived around 11:30 p.m., opening fire on the station in what appeared to be a coordinated assault. The exchange of gunfire reportedly lasted several minutes, sending residents into panic as bullets shattered windows and pierced nearby buildings.

According to early reports, the attackers overpowered the officers on duty before retreating into the nearby bushes. Security reinforcements from the Kafanchan and Kaduna metropolis have since been deployed to the area.

Spokesperson for the Kaduna State Police Command, ASP Mansir Hassan, confirmed the incident but said investigations were ongoing to determine the group behind the attack and their motive.

“Yes, there was an attack on our station in Zangon Kataf. Two of our men paid the supreme price while defending the facility. We are trailing the perpetrators, and normalcy has since been restored,” Hassan said in a statement issued Saturday morning.

The latest incident adds to growing concern over rising attacks on security formations in parts of Kaduna, especially in southern communities where tensions between armed groups and local vigilantes have intensified in recent months.

Residents of Zonkwa have called on both the state government and security agencies to beef up surveillance and ensure lasting peace in the area.

Meanwhile, Governor Uba Sani condemned the attack, describing it as “an affront to law and order.” He assured that those behind the heinous act would be brought to justice.

“We mourn the gallant officers who lost their lives in the line of duty. Their sacrifice will not be in vain,” the governor said.
