FCT Resident Doctors Suspend Indefinite Strike, Resume Work Monday After Senate Intervention

The Association of Resident Doctors in the Federal Capital Territory Administration (ARD-FCTA) has announced the suspension of its indefinite strike, effective Monday, September 22, 2025, at 8 a.m. The decision follows intervention by the Senate Committee on Federal Territory Area Councils and Ancillary Matters.

Key Demands:

- Payment of Salary Arrears: Settlement of unpaid salaries ranging from one to six months for members employed since 2023

- Improved Working Conditions: Renovation and equipping of FCT hospitals to world-class standards

- Staff Recruitment: Immediate recruitment of new staff to ease pressure on existing doctors

- Salary Structure Review: Payment of outstanding arrears from the 25-35% upward review of the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure

- Wage Award and Hazard Allowance: Settlement of outstanding wage award and hazard allowance arrears.

Background:

The strike, which began on September 15, 2025, was prompted by months of failed negotiations between the ARD-FCTA and the FCT Administration. 

The Senate's intervention has led to the temporary suspension of the strike, with the doctors' congress set to reassess progress within an agreed timeframe.
