Eight Workers Pulled Alive from Collapsed Building in Lagos

Lagos, Nigeria – September 13, 2025

Eight construction workers were rescued on Saturday after a building under construction collapsed in the Ikoyi area of Lagos.

According to officials from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the collapse occurred around midday when workers were on site. Swift response from emergency personnel, including firefighters, police, and medical teams, ensured that the trapped individuals were pulled out alive.

Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, confirmed that all rescued victims sustained varying degrees of injury, but no fatalities were recorded. They have since been taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Eyewitnesses say the building, a multi-story structure, gave way suddenly, raising questions about compliance with safety and construction regulations.

Authorities have cordoned off the site while investigations are underway to determine the cause of the collapse. The Lagos State government has promised stricter monitoring of building projects to prevent similar incidents.

This latest incident adds to the growing concerns about building safety in Lagos, where several cases of collapses have been reported in recent years.
