Katsina Government Uncovers 3,488 Ghost Workers, Moves to Clean Up Payroll

The Katsina State Government has uncovered no fewer than 3,488 ghost workers in its payroll system, in what officials described as a major breakthrough in the ongoing verification exercise aimed at sanitizing the state’s workforce.

According to the government, the discovery was made after a thorough audit of salary records and staff verification across ministries, departments, and agencies. The exercise revealed irregularities that had drained the state’s resources through fraudulent salary payments.

Officials noted that the ghost workers’ removal would save Katsina millions of naira monthly, funds that could now be redirected to infrastructure, education, and welfare projects.

The government assured that those found culpable in the scheme would face disciplinary action, warning that the administration would not tolerate corruption or financial leakages in the public service.

Residents and civil society groups have lauded the move, urging the government to sustain transparency and ensure the recovered funds are used to better the lives of citizens.
